How saffron effects one’s memory?
Multiple studies have come to the conclusion that saffron helps with memory and recall capacity which is just another health benefit of this wonder spice. These specific memory related benefits are because of an element found in saffron called Crocin. With this research, scientists are confident that saffron would be useful in the treatment of age linked mental impairment such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Not only does saffron have a beneficial impact on memory, it also helps learning and concentration. A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics found that saffron improved cognitive function in study participants with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.
This study came to the conclusion that at least in the short-term, saffron is both safe and effective in mild to moderate Alzheimer’s. Current analysis shows that Saffron can penetrate the blood-brain barrier and reach the central nervous system. Even more evidence suggests that Saffron is significantly involved in improving one’s cognition.
Research has shown that extracts of saffron can improve learning and memory. Their results also indicated that extracts of saffron increases brain dopamine and glutamate concentrations.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most frequent form of dementia. It is estimated that 42 million people worldwide will suffer from Alzheimer’s by 2040 and it will reach large proportions. Few drugs have been developed to decrease the symptoms. It is important to emphasize the good safety profile of saffron for Alzheimer’s disease which was revealed in all clinical experimentations because it is so natural compared to other drugs.
New studies on the potential efficacy of saffron and Crocin in memory disorders which occurred in other pathologies such as brain ischemia, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive deficits related to schizophrenia are currently underway and may show an even greater therapeutic potential.
